Husky Women Open Dual Meet Season This Week

THIS WEEK: The University of Washington women's swimming team opens its dual meet season on the road this week when it takes on Washington State and Idaho, Nov. 10-11. The Huskies open vs. cross-state rival WSU on Friday at 5 p.m. at Gibb Pool in Pullman before heading to Moscow, Idaho to face the Vandals Saturday at 11 a.m. at the UI Swim Center.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON STATE: The Washington State Cougars (4-1) split last week on the road, defeating UC Davis 170-92 and falling to Pac-10 foe California 158-102. Senior Erin McCleave headlines the WSU team, winning 13 events so far this season. She posted an NCAA consideration time in the 200 freestyle last week vs. UC Davis and set a Gibb Pool record in the event vs. San Jose earlier this season.

SCOUTING IDAHO: The University of Idaho Vandals (8-3) are coming off a 4-2 record last weekend at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif. The Vandals were led last week by the 400 freestyle relay team, with Katie Kolva swimming the opening leg and Sara Peterson anchoring the race (3:36.35). UI also received strong swims from Meghan Lord in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.60) and Paige Lee in the 200 butterfly (2:10.88).

UP NEXT: Washington will host the 58th Annual Husky Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in Federal Way at the King County Aquatics Center. Last year, the meet included over 500 swimmers from various club and collegiate programs. This year, the Huskies welcome the California men as well as the Washington State and Oregon State women. The meet will be formatted like the NCAA Championships with the 1000 freestyle event taking place on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Competition over the next three days will include the preliminary races at 9:30 a.m. Event finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Team Championships will be awarded in college and club divisions as well as Individual High Point Awards for the top male and female swimmer.
