WSU Returns Home to Face In-State Rival Washington

Who, What, When, Where: WSU women's swimming hosts in-state rival Washington Huskies...the Cougars are 4-1 in dual meets on the season while the Huskies have yet to compete in a dual meet...the meet will be held at 5:00 p.m. at WSU's Gibb Pool Friday, Nov. 10.

Cougar Recap: The Cougars took their undefeated record on the road...WSU faced UC Davis Friday, Oct. 27, at the Schaal Aquatics Center and defeated the Aggies by a score of 170-92...senior Erin McCleave led all scorers with three individual wins...sophomore Afton Pickett and freshman Michaela Ahlin also contributed two wins each...McCleave's time of 1:49.10 in the 200 freestyle was an NCAA 'B' Consideration time standard...WSU then traveled to No. 1 California Saturday, Oct. 28...the Golden Bears took a 158-102 win over the Cougars...McCleave recorded two individual wins on the night...Monika Povilonyte took first place in the 100 breaststroke...the loss was the Cougars' first of the 2006-07 season.

Scouting the Huskies: The Huskies have yet to compete in a dual meet this season...Washington took second place in the Pacific Invitational...the team just returned from competing in the College Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia...the Washington Gold Squad finished in third overall while the Washington Purple Squad finished fourth after two days of competition...the Huskies are coached by Whitney Hite who was named head coach in September.

Coach Quam on the Huskies: 'This will be their first dual meet of the season. They have gone to quite a few invitationals, so they have gotten in there and raced. I'm sure this meet will bring out the best in both teams which is what you look for in a rival meet like this.'

Marvelous McCleave: Senior Erin McCleave set a Gibb Pool record against San Jose State in the first home meet of the 2006-07 season...the Rutherglen, Australia native swam the 200 freestyle in a time of UC Davis Oct. 27, McCleave turned in an NCAA 'B' Consideration standard in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.10...McCleave has totaled 13 individual first place finishes in dual meets.

Looking Ahead: The Cougars will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana will be the first invitational of the season for WSU.
