UCLA Downs Humboldt State, 87-61, in Exhibition Game

Los Angeles - Sophomore forward Josh Shipp scored a game-high 21 points and junior guard Arron Afflalo added 18 points to lead UCLA past Humboldt State, 87-61, in the Bruins' final exhibition game Thursday night in Pauley Pavilion.
Four UCLA players scored in double figures. Joining Shipp and Afflalo were freshman guard Russell Westbrook (11) and sophomore guard Michael Roll (10). Sophomore forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute led all rebounders with nine, while sophomore guard Darren Collison led the way with six assists.
Shipp shot 7-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from behind the three-point line. Afflalo made each of his three three-point field goal attempts in the game's first 6:34 and finished the game 3-for-6 from behind the arc and 6-for-11 overall from the field.
Humboldt State took the game's first lead on a basket by Cy Vandermeer before the Bruins used a 9-0 run to take the lead. Leading 17-5 with 13:26 remaining in the first half, the UCLA added another 9-0 run to lead by 19 points (26-7), its largest lead of the first half.
The Bruins made 7-of-10 three pointers in the first half to gain a 41-27 advantage at the intermission. UCLA shot 48.0 percent (12-25) in the first half, as Afflalo led the way with 16 first-half points (on 5-of-7 shooting).
The Lumberjacks cut UCLA's lead to 13 with 12:00 remaining in the contest before the Bruins put together a 33-14 run over the game's next 10:07.
Humboldt State's Kevin Johnson led the Lumberjacks with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bruins open their regular season Wednesday, Nov. 15, against BYU in Pauley Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
