Nov. 13, 2006

TEMPE, Ariz. -

ArizonaStateUniversity's senior kicker Jesse Ainsworth has been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week following a career-best performance in ASU's 47-14 victory over WashingtonState Saturday.

Ainsworth converted all four field goal attempts, as well as each of his five extra-point tries against the Cougars. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native connected on kicks of 34, 46, 47 and 32 yards, and also forced six touchbacks among his 10 kickoffs.  Ainsworth extended his Pac-10 record streak of consecutive made PATs to 132, which dates back 35 games to the 2003 season, and his 47-yard field goal stands as a season-best and is one yard short of tying his career long.  Additionally, his 17 points by kicking are a season-high in the Pac-10, and he set career single-game highs in points and made field goals.

This is Ainsworth's second career Pac-10 Player of the Week award, having also earned such honors as a sophomore in 2004.

Ainsworth and the Sun Devils face the UCLA Bruins Saturday, Nov. 18 at Sun Devil Stadium for ASU's Senior Day and final home game of the 2006 season (8:15 p.m., Fox Sports Net).
