Buth And Zimmerman Named Academic All-Big 12

DALLAS - Colorado sophomore Alex Buth and senior Austin Zimmerman have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams, announced today by the league offices.

 

Buth was named to the first team for the second straight year. The East Grand Rapids, Mich., native is a four time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Buth carries a 3.493 GPA and is a sports marketing major. This season Buth has averaged 2.05 kills, 1.98 digs and 0.58 blocks per game at right side. Buth recorded the final point in the five-game upset of top-ranked Nebraska on Nov. 11.

 

This is Zimmerman's first time on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. She has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll three times in her career. Zimmerman, a Spokane, Wash., native, owns a 3.089 GPA and is majoring in sociology. The middle blocker just missed a 4.0 the fall '05 semester when she recorded a 3.940. Zimmerman ranks eighth in the Big 12 in overall hitting percentage (.325) and conference only matches (.323). She recorded a career-high 10 blocks (four solo and six assists) in the win against Nebraska.

 

Members of the first team consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

 

The Buffs (15-9, 11-6 Big 12) are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 18. CU will travel to Norman, Okla., for a match against No. 14 Oklahoma. The contest is set for a 6 p.m. start.
