Volleyball Heads To Pacific Northwest For Final Road Trip Of Regular Season

Needing two wins in their final three matches to finish with a winning record, the Sun Devils head to the Pacific Northwest for their final regular season road trip against Washington State and #2 Washington...ASU swept last weekend, beating both Oregon State and #24 Oregon 3-1...this will be the 13th and final regular season match against a ranked opponent, and ninth against a Top 10 team...ASU has faced eleven teams this year that have been ranked at one time or another...the win over #25 Oregon was the Sun Devil's first victory over a ranked opponent since knocking off #22 Arizona 3-2 in 2003.


Devils vs. Cougars:

Arizona State holds a 22-20 edge over WashingtonState, including the 3-1 win earlier this season in Tempe. The two will square off Thursday night at 8 p.m. Arizona time.


Devils vs. Huskies:

Washington leads the all-time series against ASU 27-18. The Huskies swept the first meeting this season at Wells Fargo Arena. The match will take place Friday night at 8 p.m. Arizona time.


Career Highs:

Margie Giordano has set new career highs with her 18 kills against Auburn, and her 23 digs against Butler...Sydney Donahue's 50 digs against LMU are a career high and NCAA record for digs in a three-game match...Danielle Fernandes set a career high in kills, three times recording ten against UVSC, LMU and Duke...Tierra Burnley set a career high with 14 kills against California on Oct. 28.

•    Sydney Donahue has recorded 10 or more digs in 70 of her 80 career matches.

•    Sydney Donahue has recorded double-digit digs in 37 straight matches.

Last Week's Rewind:

The Sun Devils entered last weekend needing two victories to keep their tournament hopes alive, and accomplished just that. Friday night against Oregon State they were led by the 12 kills of Nicole Morton and Margie Giordano to earn the 3-1 victory...Saturday night #24 Oregon invaded Wells Fargo Arena looking for a second straight win over ASU. 19 kills from Nina Reeves made sure that didn't happen as the Devils upset the 24th ranked Ducks 3-1.


Syd's New Record:

Junior libero Sydney Donahue became the all-time leading digger in ArizonaStateUniversity volleyball history on Nov. 10 during the 3-1 win over Oregon. In that match, Donahue recorded her 1,598th career dig, moving her past Christy Nore for the top spot. Donahue now has 1,613 digs over her almost three seasons in Tempe. On the year, Donahue has 610 digs, the second straight season she has topped the 600 dig mark. She needs only 19 over the final three matches to set a new school, which would break her own record set last season. Donahue currently leads the Pac-10 in total digs (610) and digs per game (6.49). Her current dig total is second highest in school history.

Morton Magnificent:

Senior outside hitter Nicole Morton is having an outstanding senior season. She is the team leader in kills (312) and kills per game (3.35) while hitting at a .238 clip. She led the team last season with 300 kills and was named honorable mention All-Pac-10.


No Sophomore Slump:

Sophomore outside hitter Margie Giordano has picked up right where she left off last season when she was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team. Giordano has played rock solid so far this year, totaling 275 kills for an average of 2.93 per game. She also leads the team with her 25 service aces as well as 11 double-doubles.


Reeves To The Rescue:

Senior Nina Reeves has very quietly been a killing machine this season. She is second on the team with 286 kills, an average of 3.08 per game. She's turned in five double-doubles this season, including an 18 kill, 17 dig performance against USC on Nov. 4.


Head Coach Brad Saindon:

Head Coach Brad Saindon is in his fourth season at the helm of the Sun Devil Volleyball program. Saindon has compiled a 40-68 record at ASU and an all-time 284-208 record in 16 seasons at the collegiate level. He coached the University of Colorado to a 181-112 record from 1986-96, leading the Buffaloes to six NCAA Tournaments and two Sweet 16 appearances. He was also the head coach of the Australian Women's National Team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The Sun Devils close out the regular season when they host in-state rival Arizona on Friday night. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
