This Week: The Washington State women's basketball team (1-2) embarks on the road for games at Portland (3-1), Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., and Santa Clara (3-1 pending Nov. 22 game at BYU), Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m.

Last Week:The Cougars notched their first win of the 2006-07 season with a 79-65 triumph over the Sacramento State Hornets, Friday, Nov. 17...sophomore Katie Appleton led a quintet of Cougars who scored in double figures with 16 points...Kate Benz (14 points), Adriane Ferguson (14 points), Nakejia Kelly (13 points), and Dani Montgomery (11 points) completed the contingent.

Home Openers: With the win over Sacramento State, the Cougars' extended their home opener winning streak to four...the last home opening loss came against Wyoming during the 2002-03 season as WSU fell to the Cowgirls, 82-51.

Cougars Against the West Coast Conference: WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell has a 3-1 record against the WCC...last road game against a WCC opponent was Saint Mary's, Nov. 26, 2004 in a 70-58 Cougar victory...all-time the Cougars are 28-12 against teams in the WCC.

Scouting Portland: The Pilots are led by freshman guard Laiken Dollente...Dollente has a team high 16.8 ppg and has recorded 14 steals and 16 assists for the Pilots...junior Rachel Warren is shooting 50 percent from the field and has pulled down 31 rebounds...Portland has outscored its opponents 283-240 this season, with 160 points coming in the second half.

Series With Portland: Wednesday's game will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams, and the first in Portland since their last meeting in 2000, Portland defeated WSU, 68-63...Portland leads the series 2-1.

Scouting Santa Clara: Santa Clara entered the 2006-07 season with one freshman and 10 upperclassmen...Broncos defeated Boise State, 67-65, at Boise, Monday, Nov. 20 to improve to 3-1 for the first time since the 2001-02 season...Broncos are led by Chandice Cronk, who is averaging 20.3 ppg.

Series With Santa Clara: WSU and Santa Clara have met five previous times with the Cougars holding a 3-2 edge in the their last meeting in 1993, WSU defeated Santa Clara 76-58...the two teams have not played in Santa Clara since 1983.

Defensive Stand: In their Nov. 12 game versus Wake Forest, the Cougars held the Demon Deacons to 25 percent shooting (15-of-60)...WSU's defense forced Kentucky to shoot 46.8 percent in the season opener.

Benz's Countdown: With nine rebounds against the Hornets, Kate Benz improved her career rebound mark to 719...she is the fourth player in Cougar women's basketball history to reach the 700-rebound milestone...Benz is just nine rebounds way from third position on the all-time list (727; Jenni Ruff, 1993-96)...Benz also moved her career point total to 840, moving up to No. 17 on the WSU career scoring list.

Ferguson Returns: Adriane Ferguson's 14 points against Sacramento State marked the senior's first double-digit point game since the Spokane, Wash., native scored 10 points versus Hawaii, Nov. 25, her next game against Idaho State, Ferguson broke her right fifth (pinky) finger and missed the next 12 games of the season.

Freshman Impact: Freshman Nakejia Kelly has scored in double digits twice already this season... Kelly contributed 12 points in her first collegiate game against No. 15 Kentucky, as she went 8-for-10 from the charity line and recorded one steal and an assist...against Sacramento State, Kelly did one better, scoring 13 points against the Hornets...sandwiched in between, freshman Colleen Betteridge went 4-for-11 including 1-for-1 from the 3-point line ending with 10 points against Wake Forest...Betteridge has started all three games this season.

Cougar Tracks: The 79 points scored by WSU against Sacramento State were the most scored by the Cougars since an 84-77 win over Arizona, Jan. 28, 2005...every player on the roster has seen action in at least two games.

Cougars Win Exhibition: The Cougars defeated Lewis-Clark State in exhibition play, 73-67, Nov. 3 in Bohler Gymnasium...senior Adriane Ferguson led the Cougars with 16 points and nine rebounds while senior Kate Benz added 13 points for WSU.
