Morrison Named National Player of the Week

Nov. 21, 2006

SEATTLE-- University of Washington junior All-American Christal Morrison was selected as the National Player of the Week for Nov. 13-Nov. 19.

The 6-2 outside hitter from Puyallup, Wash., led the Huskies to a pair of wins over Arizona and Arizona State last week to remain tied with Stanford in first place of the conference standings with two matches to go in the regular season.

Morrison opened the weekend with a career-match vs. Arizona, hammering 28 kills on .361 hitting in a 3-1 victory. Morrison also added 17 digs and four blocks, recording her 14th double-double of the season.

In Saturday's match, Morrison notched 17 kills, this time without an error to hit .515 on the night vs. Arizona State. She just missed a double-double with eight digs and three blocks in the sweep over the Sun Devils.

On the week, Morrison averaged 6.43 kills and 3.57 digs per game while hitting .415 over seven games.

Morrison and the Huskies will battle for the Pac-10 Championship this week when they travel to the Bay Area to face No. 3 Stanford and No. 14 California. The winner of Friday's match between the Huskies and Cardinal will guarantee at least a share of the Pac-10 title while two wins by either team would clinch the crown outright.
