STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Kristen Newlin had 12 points and 16 rebounds to help No. 15 Stanford beat Santa Clara 88-56 on Wednesday night.
Jillian Harmon added 16 points as the Cardinal (3-3) responded to consecutive losses to nationally-ranked Tennessee and Georgia with their biggest win of the season.
Chandice Cronk scored 13 points to pace the Broncos (4-3), who won three of their previous four. Ashley Graham added 10.
Stanford, the six-time defending Pac-10 champion, improved to 26-4 in the series with its local rival. The Cardinal beat Santa Clara in the first round of last season's NCAA tournament.
The Broncos closed to within 14 points before the Cardinal went on a 16-3 run midway through the second half to take a 68-41 advantage.Harrison reached double figures for the first time, scoring 10 of her points in the opening half.
Stanford recorded eight steals in the first seven minutes to grab a 22-8 lead. Stanford held a 33-17 advantage in shots attempted at one point in the half.
The Cardinal led by as many as 19 points in the first half and took a 46-30 into the intermission.
NOTES: Stanford is now 26-4 all-time against Santa Clara. Tonight represented Santa Clara's first appearance at Maples Pavilion since Dec. 2, 2001 ... Stanford's 46 first-half points represented a season-high ... Kristen Newlin recorded her third double-double of the year with 12 points and a season-best 16 rebounds. She nearly reached the mark by halftime, tallying nine points and 10 rebounds during the first 20 minutes ... Entering tonight's contest, Stanford had attempted 68 shots from beyond the arc compared to Santa Clara's 125. In fact, the Broncos' Candice Chronk had recorded 48 attempts by herself ... Cissy Pierce has yet to attempt a free throw this year ... Head coach Tara VanDerveer employed her third starting lineup of the season, using a combination of JJ Hones, Candice Wiggins, Jillian Harmon, Kristen Newlin and Brooke Smith ... Santa Clara's tallest player is senior Ashley Gonnerman at 6-3. Stanford boasts five different players 6-3 or taller ... Stanford has limited its opponents to 14 assists or less in every game this year. On Wednesday night, Santa Clara finished with just six.
