Nov. 30, 2006

Cary, NC -Head women's soccer coach Jillian Ellis, along with players McCall Zerboni and Bristyn Davis, met with the media Thursday on the eve of UCLA's semifinal showdown with North Carolina. The Bruins and Tar Heels will meet at 12:30 p.m. (PST) tomorrow. That match can be seen live on ESPN2.

Jillian Ellis

Opening statement
Well, we're back. We're just excited to be here and looking forward to the games. There are four great teams in this tournament. I think our team has done well to get to this point, but obviously we are looking to win our first championship for this program. We're very excited to be back in Cary.

On the keys to continually reaching the College Cup
For sure it's the recruiting. I think we've been able to bring in good classes and every class has pushed the upperclassmen. I feel like as a staff we really try to do a good job of having the players ready come playoff time. My team always manages to find another gear when the playoffs come around.

On the North Carolina team that UCLA last faced back in 2003
That team had a lot of personality. But North Carolina is so much about the system. I don't mean the system of play but the environment. So regardless of the personnel, they put out a quality product. So I think we just have to be prepared. I told the players that it is just 11 players. They have great tradition and great history, but it's the opponent you are facing on that day. But yeah, we ran into a buzz saw that year for sure.

Bristyn Davis

On playing in her last College Cup
It's great. I didn't know how far we would get this year so just being here there is some excitement. I just really glad to be able to be with this group of girls and have this opportunity again.

On facing UNC again after losing to the Tar Heels in the semifinals back in 2003
North Carolina, they are a great team. I know some of their players and they are very good. But, it doesn't matter what we've done thus far. We just need to come out tomorrow and give it everything.

On beating Portland in the quarterfinals after losing to them in last year's final
The teams that are in this tournament are teams that I've been beaten by all my years in the College Cup (the Bruins lost to UNC in 2003, Notre Dame in 2004 and Portland in 2005). To me every game is the final game. North Carolina knocked us out of the tournament my freshman year so there will be a lot of emotion going into the game tomorrow.

McCall Zerboni

Opening statement
We're excited to be here. It's our fourth year in a row, but we're just looking at it like every year is a new year. We're just taking it as it comes and looking at what's ahead of us. We need to focus on tomorrow and step our game up even more.
