Purdy Named Second-Team All-American

Dec. 1, 2006

BERKELEY - California senior defender Steve Purdy added another honor to his fine Golden Bears career, earning a spot on the NSCAA/adidas All-America second team, the coaches' association announced today. Last week, the San Jose, Calif., product was invited to the 2007 adidas MLS adidas Combine and named to the NSCAA Far West All-Region first team.

This is Purdy's first All-American honor from the NSCAA.

The 6-4 Purdy was Cal's second-leading scorer this season, with a career-high 12 points in 20 starts. An All-Pac-10 first-team selection in 2006, he was a member of the All-Pac-10 second team in 2005 and was and was all-conference honorable mention in 2004.

This year, he has also scored a career-high five goals, including winners against San Jose State (Sept. 9) and Oregon State (Oct. 13) along with two assists. Cal's iron man was a fixture in the starting lineup, starting in 80 of the 82 games in which he played.
