Samaniego Leads Bruin Swim & Dive on Day 2 of Texas Invitational

The #14 UCLA Bruin swim and dive team stands in seventh-place after the second day of competition at the Texas Invitational in Austin, TX with 152 points as diver Marisa Samaniego led the team with her fifth-place finish on one-meter. Arizona continues to lead the meet with 575 points.
Samaniego, a sophomore, led the divers as the only participant in the finals, and finished fifth overall with a score of 271.05 points. Sophomore Brittany Hill (245.65, 10th, senior Amanda Blong (243.95 pts/11th) and sophomore Tess Schofield (239.15, 13th) were UCLA's final divers finishing within the top-15 on one-meter.
In swimming action, the 200 Medley Relay team of seniors Katie Arnold, Jeana Fuccillo, Amy Thurman and sophomore Anna Poteete swam an NCAA 'B' qualifier of 1:42.35 for seventh-place. The 800 Freestyle Relay team of senior Katie Nelson, Poteete, junior Shannon Hackett and senior Jane Imagane finished ninth overall in a time of 7:27.59.
Fuccillo led the team in the 400 IM and 100 Breast with season-best times in both events. She finished 15th in the 400 IM (4:23.93) and 20th in the 100 Breast (1:04.33).
In the 100 Breast, senior Luisa Los-Santos swam a season-best 1:04.33 to finish 25th overall.
Arnold finished eighth in the 100 Back, swimming a season-best 54.80 in the prelims. She swam 55.24 in the finals, as both times were NCAA 'B' qualifiers. Sophomore Madeleine Stanton, also swimming the 100 Back, finished 31st in a season-best time of 57.13.
At the U.S. Open in West Lafayette, IN, Kim Vandenberg finished fifth in the 100 Fly, swimming 1:01.26. Junior Chiemi Yamamoto, who is also competing in Indiana, finished 21st in the 400 IM in a time of 5:00.20.
