UCLA Downs UC Irvine, 66-62

Irvine, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team held off UC Irvine for a 66-62 victory over the Anteaters at the Bren Center Monday.
UCLA led by 14 (60-46) with 8:07 remaining in the game when UCI went on a 14-3 run which was capped by a Christina Zdenek layup to close within three (63-60) with 1:34 to go. The Anteaters could not convert on their next four possessions and watched UCLA make three free throws before Naomi Halman added a pair from the charity stripe for the 66-62 Bruin victory.
The Bruins led by eight (32-24) with 2:52 remaining before intermission when UCI went on a 8-3 spurt to end the half and go into the locker room down by just three 35-32. During the run, UCI got six straight points from forward Klinta Lisnere, a new career-high. For UCLA, Noelle Quinn scored 15 of the Bruins' 35 first half points.
Quinn led all players with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Shaina Zaidi came off the bench to total 12 points, going 3-6 from three-point range in the win.
Freshman center Naomi Halman led UCI with a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Forward Stephanie Duda led the team off the glass with 15 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end. She also added seven points and four steals.
The Bruins out-rebounded UCI 51-42 and knocked down 5-11 from three-point range, while the Anteaters were just 3-17 from long distance.
UCLA improves to 5-4 on the year, while UCI goes to 2-5.
