Purdy Earns Another All-America Honor
Dec. 7, 2006
BERKELEY - California senior defender Steve Purdy added another All-America honor to his list of 2006 accolades when College Soccer News named him to its 2006 All-America second team this week. Over the past few weeks, Purdy was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-America second team, invited to the 2007 adidas MLS adidas Combine and named to the NSCAA Far West All-Region first team.
The 6-4 Purdy was Cal's second-leading scorer in his final season, with a career-high 12 points in 20 starts. An All-Pac-10 first-team selection in 2006, he was a member of the All-Pac-10 second team in 2005 and was and was all-conference honorable mention in 2004.
This year, the San Jose, Calif., product has also scored a career-high five goals, including winners against San Jose State (Sept. 9) and Oregon State (Oct. 13) along with two assists. Cal's iron man was a fixture in the starting lineup, starting in 80 of the 82 games in which he played.
Purdy's play helped the Bears win their first Pac-10 title and reach the third round of the NCAA College Cup this year.
