Cougars Win Fourth Straight Over Vandals, 66-54

Dec. 10, 2006

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - Derrick Low and Mac Hopson both scored 14 points to lead Washington State to a 66-54 victory over Idaho on Saturday night.

Daven Harmeling had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (9-1). Aron Baynes added 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Keoni Watson led the Vandals (1-8) with 24 points and three steals, but had a game-high six turnovers.

The Cougars led from the opening basket and were never seriously threatened. The 6-foot-10, 270-pound Baynes dominated Idaho's small lineup down low. Idaho trailed only 26-21 with 3:28 left in the first half, but Hopson came off the bench to record eight points in the final 2:40 of the half.

Hopson, who started earlier this season, did not play in Washington State's win over 18th-ranked Gonzaga on Tuesday night. He finished 5 for 5 from the field, including 3 for 3 on 3-pointers, and sank his only free throw.

The victory was the Cougars' fourth straight in the series with Idaho, which began in 1906. Washington State has won 12 of the last 13 meetings.
