Football Seniors Share Their Thoughts on What Cal Has Meant To Them

Dec. 11, 2006

For the 'Kickoff' game day magazine on Dec. 2 for the Big Game, each senior ws given the opportunity to share his feelings on his experiences at Cal. The general question they were asked to answer was, 'What has your time at Cal meant to you?' However, it was an open forum in which they could give one last message to the Golden Bear fans who have supported them so well through their careers. Here are the responses:

Joe Ayoob
'My experience at Cal has been good. I got to live my dream of playing college football in the Pac-10. There were ups and downs but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.'

Eric Beegun
'Someone once told me, `Don't be sad that it's over, be happy it happened.' Now that I am about to graduate from Cal, it's hard to accept the fact that it's over. The early practices and double days that I dreaded are what I am going to miss. The countless hours spent with teammates will be hard to give up. Even though my time at Cal is over, the memories I have will last a lifetime.'

Desmond Bishop
'My time at Cal has been a wonderful experience. Academically I've had some great classes and professors which have prepared me for life after football. Speaking of football, I have had great coaches and teammates to make my short time at Cal a memorable experience that I will have for a life time. Being apart of Cal football family, especially under Coach Tedford, I have helped set the foundation for Cal football powerhouse expectations. I will be grateful to one day call myself a Cal alumnus.'

Andrew Cameron
'Being at Cal was the best decision I have made in my life up to this point. I know what I want and how to get it; I know who I am and what I'm about. Lastly, being a part of something larger than me was special, knowing that Cal football lives on without me!'

Bryan Deemer
'My time at the University of California has been an experience filled with triumphs and tribulations and memories that will last me a lifetime. From 6:30 a.m. workouts to game time on Saturdays I will cherish the times I have had for as long as I live. The brotherhood that I have gained in my teammates will not be taken for granted. We share a common band of hard work, dedication and sincere appreciation for one another because we have sweat, bled, laughed and cried with one another for the past few years. No one can ever take that feeling of running onto the field, steeping into battle with the closest brothers anyone could ask for. My time has gone by far too fast, but that is how life goes. Though my time here has ended I feel I take with me the traits of honor, dedication and the desire to success that defines Cal football.'

Steve Kelly
'My time at Berkeley has taught me an abundance of life lessons that I will never forget. Throughout my education at Berkeley, I have gained a significant amount of perspective regarding people and cultures around the world and within the community. Berkeley has taught me the importance of work ethic and dedication. Cal has changed me for the better, and I am proud to be able to call myself an alumnus.'

Tyler Krieg
'My time at Cal, although short, has been a great experience. I have had the opportunity to befriend a lot of wonderful people. I have had the chance to further my education with a master's degree at Cal. I have also been able to play for some great coaches in a family environment. But most of all, my time at Cal has provided me the opportunity to win and finish my athletic career with a bowl game.'

Taylor Kunzi
'Being a student athlete at Cal for the past six years has brought me a lot of joy and has taught me many meaningful lessons that will help me be successful in life after football. I take pride in knowing that I belong to a club of men that has existed for over a century and has a rich tradition in athletics, and most importantly, academics. Not only am I receiving a degree from the No. 1 public school in the nation, I am playing competitive Pac-10 football, learning life's lessons both on and off the field. The people who have helped me along the way have influenced my life tremendously and the friendships and relationships that I have built will remain close to me throughout my life. I cannot put into words how much this experience at Cal has meant to me, but I will forever be in debt to Cal and will forever be a Golden Bear. Go Bears.'

Steve Levy
'My time here at Cal has been one heck of a roller coaster ride - full of ups and downs. I am so grateful for the time I have spent at this university, the wonderful memories I have shared on the football field, and all of the incredible people I have met along the way. I can honestly say that my choice to come to Cal has been the best decision I have ever made. I am truly honored to be a California Golden Bear, now and forever.'

Abu Ma'afala
'My time at Cal has been awesome!!! Golden Bear for life!!! GO BEARS!!!'

Brandon Mebane
'I would like just like to thank my parents and coaches for everything they have done for me. Go Bears!'

Mickey Pimentel
'It meant a lot to me to come to Cal. I met some really cool people and got close with a lot of them. One word that would describe my time here is sic-wit-it. Go Bears!'

Erik Robertson
'Cal has been the perfect place for me to grow as a person. The friendships I have made I will cherish forever. Not to mention my degree.'

Scott Smith
'Go Bears!'

Byron Storer
'My time at Cal has meant hard work. It is not easy being a student-athlete at Cal. You must be willing to make sacrifices and have great time management. Nevertheless, in retrospect every drill, every practice, every paper, every class and all the hard work was worth the final result. I walk away from Cal with a degree and memories that will cherish for the rest of my life. I will always be a California Golden Bear.'

Nu'u Tafisi
'Do whatever you feel that is right in your lifetime; just don't forget about God.'

Greg Yamamoto
'My time at Cal has taught me a lot about putting the team first and perseverance. I have learned that the team is most important above any one person. This has developed character in me to put others before myself, especially when things don't go the way I want or plan. I believe I'll be able to apply this to my future knowing that functioning as a team and family is one of the greatest things to be a part of.'
