Trojans Topple No. 8 Shockers, 60-56, In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nick Young scored 26 points and Southern California beat No. 8 Wichita State 60-56 in the third-place game of the Las Vegas Classic on Saturday, handing the Shockers their second loss in as many nights after they had opened the season 9-0.

Young, who went 11-for-14 from the field, made a jumper as the shot clock ran out with 1:03 to play, and Lodrick Stewart then stole the ball and made one free throw to put the Trojans (10-3) ahead 58-53.

But Sean Ogirri of Wichita State made a 3-pointer with seven seconds to play to make it 58-56, and Daniel Hackett of the Trojans had to make two free throws with 6.4 seconds left to put the game away.

Hackett and Taj Gibson had 12 points apiece for the Trojans, who have won five of six. They lost to Kansas State on Friday in the semifinals.

Ogirri led Wichita State (9-2) with 16 points.

P.J. Cousinard, who missed a start for the first time in 31 games on Friday with a stomach virus, scored 13 points for Wichita State, and Kyle Wilson added 11.

The Shockers lost 71-68 to New Mexico on Friday night for their first loss of the season.
