Swim & Dive Down Tritons in Final Home Meet of the Season

Jan. 6, 2007

The swim and dive team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 104-57 win over the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday as the Bruins won every event during the competition at the Sunset Recreation Center. UCLA now holds a 12-0 all-time record over UCSD.

Originally, the swim events were to be held at the Men's Gym Pool (also known as Student Activities Center), but a pool malfunction moved the event to the Sunset Rec Center as diving and swimming events were held simultaneously.

The unconventional meet featured the usual diving events - 1M and 3M, as well as an individual 400 Freestyle and a multitude of relays.

UCLA opened up the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay as seniors Katie Arnold and Jeana Fuccillo and freshmen Kirsten Byers and Ashley Anlauf finished first in a time of 2:05.40.

In the only individual event of the day, the 400 Freestyle, junior Shannon Hackett won in a time of 4:34.64.

The Bruins then took first in the 500 Breast Relay with junior Chiemi Yamamoto, sophomore Kristen Fischer and seniors Luisa Los-Santos and Courtney Iversen swimming 6:46.27.

In the 500 Butterfly Relay, the Bruin team of freshman Hope Thurman, Hackett, Amy Thurman and Fuccillo won in a time of 5:42.97.

The team of Poteete, sophomore Silke Nowotzin, freshman Isabel Fischer and Los-Santos won the 4x100 Freestyle Relay in a time of 4:04.63.

The 500 Backstroke Relay team of Isabel Fischer, Poteete, Arnold and Yamamoto won in a time of 6:07.45.

In the 600 Medley Relay, K. Fischer, Iversen and Los-Santos won in a time of 7:27.83, while the 600 Freestyle Relay team of Nowotzin, Anlauf and freshman Julie Imagane won in a time of 6:43.87.

In one-meter diving action, senior Amanda Blong captured the final individual home win of her career with a score of 169.25. Senior Sara Clark, also won the last home event of her career, winning the three-meter competition with a score of 191.25.
