Buehler Named to U.S. National Team Training Camp Roster
Jan. 8, 2007
Carson, Calif. - Rachel Buehler of the Stanford women's soccer team was among the 28 players named to the U.S. Women's National Team January training camp roster announced Head Coach Greg Ryan last week. The Cardinal standout was among nine defenders and three current Pac-10 players selected. Buehler and the rest of the elite group head to the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. for a five-day training camp, Jan. 11-15.
Buehler, a redshirt junior, was the anchor of the Stanford defense in 2006, leading the team to one of the top-10 shutout percentages in the nation (.652), with 15 on the year. She also helped the team to one of the lowest goals-against averages in the nation (.55) and captained the squad that advanced to the NCAA Third Round. The Del Mar, Calif. started for the USA in both the 2002 and 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championships. This is her second call-up to the full Women's National Team.
Following the camp, Ryan will name a 20-player roster for the prestigious Four Nations Tournament in Guangzhou, China, which kicks off Jan. 26. The 2007 edition of the tournament features four of the top-12 teams in the world, including top-ranked Germany, England (12), China (9) and the USA (2).
