Mineau, Lia Earn Team MVP Honors

Jan. 3, 2007

SEATTLE - Juniors Jeremy Mineau and Amy Lia were rewarded by their teammates for outstanding cross country seasons Wednesday when presented with Team MVP awards at the annual Washington Cross Country Postseason Awards Banquet in Seattle.

Both Mineau, of Menlo Park, Calif., and Lia, of Bothell, Wash., earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in 2006, and were their team's top finishers at the 2006 NCAA Championships. Mineau led Washington's men to a 12th-place finish at the national meet with a 53rd-place individual effort -- tops by a Husky men's runner at the NCAA meet since 1998 -- while Lia, competing individually, was 55th overall.

'We had a lot of outstanding performances this fall, but I think that it was clear in everyone's mind who was deserving of these awards,' said 10th-year head coach Greg Metcalf.

Mineau and Lia were just two of several award recipients Wednesday. Senior Mike Sayenko and junior Trisha Rasmussen were honored as Most Improved, while Rasmussen, sophomore Amanda Miller, senior Travis Boyd and junior Carl Moe shared Most Inspirational honors.

In addition to the above awards voted on by Washington's cross country team members, the Huskies' coaches presented awards to Mineau and Rasmussen for their exemplary leadership, while Moe and Miller were recognized with Strength Training Awards for their outstanding efforts working with UW's strength and conditioning staff.

Washington's cross country teams will rejoin their UW track and field teammates for the indoor track season beginning Jan. 13, with a select few training for the USATF Cross Country Championships in February. Visit GoHuskies.com regularly for updates.
