LAS VEGAS, Nev. - With a rare winter storm moving into the valley and temperatures dipping into the 30s, the schedule for the opening day of the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships was limited to just one round of doubles on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

ASU fared well as the number one seed, Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke came out to defeat UCLA's Tracy Lind and Stephanie Wetmore 8-5 in the first round, after which their Sun Devil teammates, Sabrina Capannolo and Jessica Leitch came out to follow their lead with a 8-6 win over Florida's Csilla Borsanyi and Lolitta Frangulyan.

Two Sun Devil duos also fell on the day as Rebecca Rankin and Nadia Abdala lost 8-6 to Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray while in the Flight Two First Round Laila Abdala and Amanda Martin were topped 8-4 by UNLV's Nikol Dimitrova and Linda Tempelfelde.
