Jan. 12, 2007

Maui, Hawai'i -- The University of Washington women's tennis team will start the 2007 season this weekend in Maui, Hawai'i. The Huskies will host Hawai'i and Sacramento State in the three-day tournament beginning today on the island of Maui.

The Huskies, led by second-year Head Coach Jill Hultquist, are coming off a 3-17 season. The team welcomes five new faces to the squad and returns four letterwinners from last year's team.

The Huskies will be led by junior Tara Simpson, the team's leader in wins last season. Sophomore Victoria Brymer, junior Allison Rainey and sophomore Melinda Wong also return from last year's squad.

Hultquist will be counting on big contributions from French import Mathilde Cor, Aleksandra Malovic, who hails from the Netherlands, and Tulane transfer Joyce Ardies of Brazil. All have worked their way into the singles lineup for the Huskies.

The three-day tournament will feature two flights of competition and will conclude Sunday.
