Day Two Results from the Freeman Memorial Classic
Jan. 13, 2007
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Despite sunny skies, Las Vegas temperatures refused to get out of the 30s on Saturday, which affected action for a second day at the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. With half of the field choosing to sit out because of the cold conditions, players from the other four teams went outside of the tournament's draws and played added doubles matches.
The top seeded doubles duo of Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke took down Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray 8-6, while teammates Rebecca Rankin and Nadia Abdala topped Oregon's Dominika Dieskova and Anna Cecilia Olivos 8-6.
Jessica Leitch and Sabrina Capannolo also paired up to face Georgia Tech's Miller and McCray, but fell 8-2. Rebecca Rankin and Laila Abdala also teamed up to take on GT's Alison Silverio and Tarryn Rudman, but lost 8-3 to the Yellow Jackets.
Weather pending, the Freeman Memorial Classic will try to kick off for a final day of action tomorrow at 11 a.m. with doubles followed by singles.
