Jan. 19, 2007

LOS ANGELES - The 15th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (1-0) looked sharp in its 2007 season opener on Friday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Hawai'i (0-2) in a non-conference showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

After dropping a total of just three games in all three doubles matches, the Bruins were equally as dominant in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Junior Tracy Lin, playing her first-ever match at the No. 1 position, rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kana Aikawa. Freshman Stephanie Wetmore got her first taste of dual-match action on Friday playing at the No. 6 spot, as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Florence Wasko. Ashley Joelson, Alex McGoodwin, Elizabeth Lumpkin and Anna-Viktoria Lind, who didn't lose a single game at the No. 5 spot, were the other singles winners for UCLA.

UCLA hosts Cal Poly San Luis Obispo next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. That is the Bruins' final tune up before heading to the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors, Feb. 1-4, in Madison, Wisc.
