Jan. 26, 2007

Senior Mihaly Flaskay swept the breaststroke races and senior Kenny Jenkins won the springboard diving events, but the No. 6 Trojans didn't have enough overall to stop No. 4 California, falling to the Bears, 170-110, in a Pac-10 Conference dual meet in Berkeley on Friday (Jan. 26).

USC suffered its first dual-meet loss, dropping to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-10.

Flaskay won the 100y breast in 54.67 while senior teammate Joon Youm came in third (56.84). Flaskay later won the 200y breast in 2:00.73, touching off a 1-2-3 Trojan finish as sophomore Kazu Miyahara took second (2:03.23) and Youm finished third (2:05.13).

Jenkins, having a fine season as he works toward earning his second straight NCAA Championships berth, won the 1-meter springboard with 352.20 and won the 3-meter with 364.22. Senior teammate Michael Hilde, a three-time NCAA competitor who will soon be seeking his third career Pac-10 platform title at the upcoming conference championships, was second on 3-meter (355.65) and third on 1-meter (299.55).

Senior Larsen Jensen posted a season-best en route to victory in the 1650y free (15:12.45) and took second in the 500y free (4:23.78).

Sophomore Vanni Mangoni, one of the top 400y IM swimmers in the country this year, won that event on Friday in 3:51.92. Freshman James Martin posted a season-best in the race in 4:04.88.

Junior Brandon Lovell posted a pair of thirds in the 100y (49.27) and 200y fly (1:48.65) while junior Richard Gosper was third in the 50y free (20.42).

The men's team wraps up the dual-meet season on Saturday (Jan. 27) at No. 2 Stanford at 1 p.m.
