Jan. 29, 2007
Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford forward Brook Lopez has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 22-28.
Lopez, a freshman from Fresno, Calif., averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocks as Stanford swept the Los Angeles schools. In the 65-50 win over No. 25 USC, Lopez recorded the first triple-double in school history with 18 points, 11 rebounds and a school record 12 blocked shots. In the 75-68 upset of No. 3 UCLA, Lopez scored seven points and pulled down eight rebounds. Defensively, he helped keep UCLA's leading rebounders to just five boards for the game as the Cardinal outrebounded the Bruins 40-28. For the week, he shot 11-of-24 (.458) from the field and dished out 2.5 assists per game.
This is the first weekly honor for Lopez and Stanford's 39th Player of the Week all-time. This marks the first time in Pac-10 history that three different freshmen have received the honor in the same season.
