Competition is heating up in the Pac-10. No. 16 ARIZONA upset No. 13 OREGON STATE this week in Pac-10 gymnastics action. No. 6 UCLA had a nail-biting victory over ARIZONA STATE , and No. 4 STANFORD took care of business against WASHINGTON. CALIFORNIA which had a week off to rest and giving them time to prepare for Pac-10 and cross-town rival STANFORD. The Pac-10 has five teams in the Top 25 this week with STANFORD leading the way ranked No. 5, but closely trailed by No. 7 UCLA, with Arizona, Oregon State, and Arizona State ranked No. 15, 16, and 17 respectively. The action is heating up, so make sure not to miss any match.

STANFORD junior Tabitha Yim has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for January 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Yim, a 5'2 junior from Irvine, Calif., recorded three victories this past week to propel No. 4 ranked Stanford over Washington 196.025-193.675 on Fri., Jan. 26 at Bank of America Arena. Competing in her fourth all-around this season, Yim captured her first all-around title posting a score of 39.450, her second highest this season. Helping her all-around score, Yim posted season-best scores on bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.950), winning both of those events. She finished off the day with a second place finish on vault with a score of 9.825 and a beam score of 9.725.

Stanford is currently ranked fifth in the national standings. The Cardinal will travel across the bay to take on Pac-10 rival California on Sun., Feb. 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.

  • ARIZONA - Arizona's home opener resulted in a convincing win over No. 13 Oregon State on Fri., Jan. 26, 196.325-194.600... Led by junior Karin Wurm's all-around total of 39.300, the Wildcats swept the individual event titles... Arizona bounced back after last week and recorded season-high team scores on the floor (49.150), bars (49.100), and beam (49.075)... The Wildcats will host No. 21 Minnesota on Fri., Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

  • ARIZONA STATE - Despite posting a season-high team score of 195.275, Arizona State lost to No. 6 UCLA who scored 195.725... Senior captain April Boone took second with a season-high 39.350 while fellow senior, Cassandra Jusino placed third with a 39.200... Next week the Sun Devils will make the trip north to Corvallis, Ore. to take on Oregon State Fri., Feb. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
  • CALIFORNIA - California did not compete last week. The Bears return home to host Stanford in the Big Meet on Sun., Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. in Haas Pavilion.
  • OREGON STATE - Oregon State showed a solid performance on Friday night against Arizona, but fell a bit short 196.325-194.600... Sophomore Jami Lanz placed second in the all-around with a score of 39.275... Freshman all-arounder Mandi Rodriguez (39.200) posted another career-best score in the all-around, and two other career-high scores on the bars 9.875 and the beam (9.800)... The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next week to compete against Arizona State Friday at 7 p.m.

  • STANFORD -The Cardinal took care of business at Bank of America Arena as they had a convincing win over Washington on Friday, 196.025-193.675... All-American Tabitha Yim recorded three victories in the all-around (39.450), the bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.950)... Alex Pintchouk added to Stanford's victory total with a first-place effort on beam, recording a season-best mark of 9.825... Stanford takes on cross-town rival California Fri., Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Berkeley.

  • UCLA - UCLA improved to 5-2 on the year after a 195.725-195.275 victory at Arizona State... Junior Tasha Schwikert led the Bruins for the fourth consecutive meet, winning the all-around with a 39.450... All-American Jordan Scwikert returned to action after a hamstring injury and led the Bruins on vault with a season-best 9.825... UCLA has a week off, but will return to action on Sat., Feb. 5 as it travel to take on No. 12 Denver.

  • WASHINGTON - Despite sophomore Ashley Houghting earning her 10th vault title of her career (9.900), the Huskies could not pull out a win against No. 4 Stanford on Friday 196.075-193.675. Washington's Chelsea Bakken led the Huskies in the all-around finishing fourth posting a score of 38.800. The Huskies (1-3) will rest next weekend before welcoming No. 16 Arizona to Bank of America Arena on Friday, Feb. 2.
