Feb. 1, 2007
Stanford, CA - The Stanford women's gymnastics team (SWG) heads to Berkeley on Sunday, February 2, for this year's Big Meet at 2 pm in Haas Pavilion. The Cardinal are currently ranked #5 in the nation and are undefeated in Pac-10 competition after convincing wins over UCLA and Washington on the road.
This year's Stanford team features a number of Olympic caliber athletes who are leading SWG to what looks to be a historic season. Juniors Tabitha Yim and Liz Tricase (US), sophomore Heather Purnell (2004 Canadian Team Captain), and freshmen Allyse Ishino (2004 US Olympic team alternate) and Carly Janiga (US) were all in the mix for Olympic competition in 2004 and bring tremendous talent and performance skill to the competition floor for the Card.
The team returns home for competition on Friday, February 9 at 7:30 in Maples Pavilion for the Breast Cancer Awareness Meet, which will feature a four team competition that includes visitors Oregon State, Iowa State, and San Jose State and a host of fund-raising activities that will benefit the Community Breast Health Project.
