Baseball's Matt Spencer Named A Louisville Slugger National Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University OF Matt Spencer has been named a 'Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week' by Collegiate Baseball. The junior from Morristown, Tenn. had a stellar first weekend as a Sun Devil, helping lead ASU to a three-game sweep of Southern Utah. The transfer from North Carolina was one of three players honored by the publication and was the only position player.
Spencer went 7-9 (.778) with two doubles and two homers, including a grand slam on Sunday that hit the green monster in centerfield. He totaled 13 RBI for the weekend, despite never playing past the fifth inning in any of the three games. Spencer and the Sun Devils scored 61 runs against the Thunderbirds, tying a school record for most runs scored in a three-game series.
Arizona State (3-0) moved up two spots to #12 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll. They head to Houston, Texas this weekend to participate in the Houston College Classic played at Minute Maid Park. They will face Texas A&M on Friday, #6 Vanderbilt on Saturday and Houston on Sunday.
