Daven Harmeling Named Pacific-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Feb. 5, 2007
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State forward Daven Harmeling has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 29-Feb. 4, commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.
Harmeling, a native of Grand Junction, Colo., averaged 14 points, 2.5 rebounds, and one block as the Cougars swept the Arizona schools for the first time in school history. In the 72-66 win over then-No. 20 Arizona, Harmeling recorded 12 points, shooting 41.7 percent from the floor (5-for-12). Harmeling led the Cougars offensively with 16 points in Washington State's 48-47 victory over Arizona State. For the week, he shot 10-for-22 (45 percent) from the field, including 5-for-12 from beyond the arc.
The weekend sweep marked Washington State's first Pac-10 road sweep since the 2004 season when it swept the Los Angeles schools and was the first road sweep of the Arizona schools since the 1981-82 season.
This is the second weekly honor for Harmeling, who is one of 14 Cougars to receive the honor and it marks 18th time Washington State has earned the award. The redshirt sophomore received the weekly accolade Dec. 11, 2006 after his 20-point night in the Cougars 77-67 victory over then-No. 18 Gonzaga.
Harmeling becomes the fourth Cougar in Washington State history to win the award two times. While no player has won the award more than twice, Harmeling is just the second Cougar to garner the award twice in the same season since Joe Wallace was named player of the week Dec. 22 and Feb. 9 during the 1986-87 season.
