COUGAR INDOOR TRACK & FIELD COMPETES IN SEATTLE: The Washington State University indoor track and field teams travel to Seattle for the Husky Classic Indoor Meet this Saturday, Feb. 10...location is the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the University of Washington campus...Field and running events begin at 8:30 a.m. with the final relay event slated for an 4:45 p.m. start...results from Seattle can be located on the WSU Athletics website,, upon completion of the meet.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Cougar women's team is again tied at 18th in the Trackwire Women's Top 25 ( this week...the WSU men are not Trackwire Online's Dandy Dozen lists, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event...All-American multi-events specialists Diana Picker (2nd) and Julie Pickler (5th), are ranked this week...Pac-10 women's teams currently ranked in Trackwire Online's Top 25 include: 1. Arizona State, 4. Stanford, T18. Washington State...Pac-10 men's teams currently ranked in Trackwire Online's Top 25 include: 5. Washington, 7. Oregon, 13. Stanford, and 24. UCLA...neither team is ranked in the USTFCCCA Indoor Polls for Feb. 6, 2007.

GARBERG PUTS SHOT INTO COUGAR TOP THREE: Junior thrower McKenzie Garberg threw the shot put an NCAA PQ and PR distance of 50-feet, 1 1/4 inches (15.27m) for second place at the Husker Invite at Lincoln, Neb., Feb. 3...Garberg's best toss was her sixth and final throw of the day and is the third-best women's shot put mark in WSU women's history behind Georgette Reed (54-6 in 1991) and Shannon Rance (51-1i in 2002)...she is currently fourth in the MPSF rankings and 27th nationally.

DMR SCHOOL RECORD: The WSU women's distance medley relay team of Lisa Egami, Selena Galaviz, Sara Trané and Haley Paul won the DMR at the Husker Invite (2/3/07, Lincoln) with the fastest indoor time in school history of is the second-fastest time in overall records behind the 11:47.11 of Lisa Schaures, Sharika Higgins, Alishia Booterbaugh, and Megan Maynard in 1999.

NCAA PERFORMANCE LISTS: Diana Pickler's 4,260 points leads the national in the pentathlon while Julie Pickler's 4,003 pts is fifth-best...Tyson Byers' 17-2 3/4 pole vault is 12th-best nationally to date.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 34th season with the Cougar track program; 13th year as a head coach, 12th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Mark Macdonald, Ellannee Richardson and Matt McGee...volunteer coaches included former WSU All-American pole vaulter Tamara Diles, Bob Frey and Luan Weeks.

BYERS OWNS FACILITY RECORD: Fifth-year senior All-American Tyson Byers (Spokane Valley, Wash.) won the Cougar Indoor (1/27/07) pole vault with a clearance at 17-2 3/4 (5.25m)...this bettered his winning mark from the WSU Open meet the previous weekend where he soared 17-0 3/4 (5.20m) for the WSU indoor facility record, meet record and NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark...Byers became the first man to clear 17-feet in the Indoor Practice Facility where the Cougars host indoor track and field meets...he broke a WSU indoor facility record that was set 29 years ago, in 1978, by Brian Worden with his pole vault of 16-10 3/4 (5.15m) in Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

DISCUS FLYING INDOORS: WSU's Matt Lamb and Drew Ulrick threw lifetime-bests in the discus at the McDonald's Collegiate Indoor Meet at the Idaho Kibbie Dome Feb. 2...Lamb, a sophomore from Emmett, Idaho, tossed the plastic disk 191-4 (58.31m)...Ulrick, a senior from Spokane, Wash., threw a distance of 183-6 (55.93m).

PICKLERS IN NATIONAL OUTDOOR RANKINGS: Multi-events specialists Diana and Julie Pickler are ranked fifth and ninth, respectively, in the Track & Field News Magazine rankings for United State heptathletes...Diana set the school record last June with her 5,855 points for fifth place at the USA Outdoor Championships...Julie has a PR of 5,734 points...both are fifth-year seniors and All-Americans from Sachse, Texas.

COUGAR HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK: A solid showing by the Cougar squad that traveled to the 32nd Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska...sprinters Princess Joy Griffey (5th, 60m, 7.69), Justin Woods (6th, 60m, 6.86 & 7th, 200m, 22.00), Jaycee Robertson (7th, 60m, 6.86 & 5th, 200m, 21.61) had good performances as they ran prelims, semis and finals...other Cougar top 8 placers in addition to Garberg and the women's DMR listed above, included Tyson Byers (3rd, pole vault, 16-6 3/4), Robert Williams (7th, 60m hurdles, 8.14), Trent Arrivey (7th, high jump, 6-9), Sarah Burns (5th, triple jump, 40-3 1/4), Kaylee Gardner (6th, triple jump, 39-5 1/4), Moreno Zapata (6th, triple jump, 47-5 3/4) and the women's 4x400m relay of Diana Pickler, Brandi Probasco-Canda, Griffey and Julie Pickler ran a winning time 3:44.66.

ABOUT THE WSU HOME INDOOR FACILITY: The WSU Indoor Facility has a Mondo track with an eight-lane 60m straightaway, throwers' cage, long/triple jump pit, pole vault and high jump inside the six-lane 200m oval.

COUGARS AND THE MPSF INDOOR HISTORY: Because the Pacific-10 Conference does not sponsor indoor track and field competition, Washington State University competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for an indoor track conference title, joining teams from the Pac-10, Mountain West, West Coast and Big West the 2006 MPSF Indoor Championships, Cougar women finished eighth while the men were ninth.
