Five Cross Country Runners Headed to USATF Junior Nationals

Feb. 7, 2007

Five Bruins will head to Boulder, CO for the USATF Junior National Cross Country Championships this weekend as they will compete on Saturday for a spot on the USA roster for the World Junior Championships. Four men and one woman will compete for UCLA in Colorado.

Heading to Colorado are - freshmen Marco Anzures, Alex Crabill, Jake Matthews, Kevin Sullivan and Kelcie Wiemann.

'This is the first time we've had this many youngsters eligible for the junior competition,' said cross country coach Eric Peterson. 'It's going to be a great opportunity for them to compete in a championship like this where they are at the top of that age bracket.

'They've all been training well and have been very excited and enthusiastic about the opportunity to go out and compete. They are also well aware of the conditions in Colorado. We are anticipating snow and cold temperatures, but that's what cross country is all about. They are going to go into this competition with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.

'There is a chance if they finish in the top-6 to make a national team, but our focus is to give them national meet expereince, and they've earned that through hardwork and committment to this program.

Results will be available on the USATF Website
