Women's Tennis to Host No. 24 Fresno State

Bruins to Host No. 24 Fresno State
The 15th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (3-2) will face its second top-25 opponent in as many matches this week, as the Bruins host No. 24 Fresno State at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Friday at 1:30 p.m. UCLA owns an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series, posting a 7-0 victory in the last meeting back in 2005. UCLA Goes 1-2 at National Team Indoors
UCLA faced some of the toughest competition in the country last week at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors in Madison, Wisc. The Bruins opened up the tournament with a 5-2 loss to No. 8 Northwestern in the opening round. UCLA rebounded a day later, however, posting a 6-1 victory over host Wisconsin in the consolation draw. The Bruins rounded out the tournament with a tough 4-3 loss to No. 18 Clemson on Saturday. Georgia Tech won the tournament, downing Notre Dame, 4-2 in the final.

Bruins Check in at No. 15 Nationally
Following its performance at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors last week, UCLA fell one spot to No. 14 in the new Fila/ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. Georgia Tech is the new No. 1 team after winning the Indoors. New team rankings will now be released on a weekly basis.

Schnack Leads Individual Rankings
Freshman Yasmin Schnack is the highest-ranked Bruin checking in at No. 28 in the individual rankings released on Jan. 9. She is followed by No. 25 Riza Zalameda, No. 40 Ashley Joelson and No. 61 Tracy Lin. In doubles, Schnack and Zalameda are ranked No. 17. New individual rankings will not be released again until Feb. 21.

Closing in on NCAA Title #100
With 99 NCAA team titles, the UCLA Athletic Program is on the verge of making history as the first school to reach No. 100. After a couple of close misses by the women's soccer and volleyball teams in the fall, UCLA is still looking to reach the century mark.

Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster
Head coach Stella Sampras Webster owns an overall record of 168-92 (.646) in her 11th season at the helm of the UCLA program. She is coming off her seventh-consecutive top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships, as the Bruins reached the round of 16 at the 2006 championships. Sampras Webster was also an outstanding player at UCLA from 1988-91, as she is one of only four players in UCLA women's tennis history to earn All-America honors every year of her career.
