WSU Announces Football Signees

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State Cougars received signed National Letters-of-Intent from the following students Wednesday. The following text includes honors accorded WSU recruits and player profiles for each player that has signed. Throughout the day this list will be updated as letters of intent are received.

The following high school players signed with WSU last year, enrolled in January and are currently attending classes:

Atkins, Cornorris DB 6-2/190 FR Reseda, Calif (Cleveland High `05)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR (2004-05): Rushed for 511 yards on 53 carries, a 9.6 average, with six touchdowns...also caught five passes for 78 yards...season was cut short after the sixth game due to injury...averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, helping Cleveland to 21-7 record on the basketball court. SENIOR (2005-06): Recorded 34 tackles with two interceptions on the defensive side of the ball...caught 25 passes for 320 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 112 yards on 21 carries.
WSU CAREER: Originally signed with WSU in February, 2006, but elected to delay enrollment until January, 2007.
PERSONAL: Cornorris Atkins...born January 27, 1988...mother Theresa Robinson.

The following junior college transfers enrolled at WSU in January and are attending classes:

FRISCHKNECHT, DEVIN TE 6-3/250 JR Ephraim, Utah (Manti High '05)
: Earned 2A Second-Team All-State honors as a wide receiver. SENIOR (2004-05): Team posted a 7-3 record under coach Cole Meacham...earned 2A All-North League honors and was an All-State first team wide reached second round of state playoffs, falling 28-26 to Juan Diego...also named to All-State third team in basketball.
SNOW COLLEGE: FRESHMAN (2005-06): Coached by Steve Coburn at the Ephraim, Utah, school. SOPHOMORE (2005-06): Team finished the year 11-1, capping the season with a 26-21 win over Coffeyville in the Top of The Mountains Bowl...captured Western State Football League title and finished second in the nation in final ranking...named Offensive MVP of Top of the Mountains Bowl after catching nine-yard TD pass on game-winning drive...finished season with 54 receptions for 763 yards and nine touchdowns...he had more catches than any tight end in junior college and was the eighth leading receiver overall...earned honorable mention All-America honors by JC Grid-Wire.
WSU: JUNIOR (2006-07): Enrolled at WSU in January, 2007, and will participate in spring drills...will have three years to finish his two years of competition.
PERSONAL: Born November 6, 1986.

LESUMA, VAUGHN OL 6-5/340 JR Laie, Hawaii (Mt. San Jacinto College `06)
: Attended high school in Fiji where he was a member of the rugby team for four years...also played basketball for four years, with team winning the high school national title during senior season.
MT. SAN JACINTO COLLEGE: FRESHMAN (2004-05): Coached by Ed Carberry, team posted an 8-3 record...fell to Saddleback in season-ending Beach Bowl. SOPHOMORE (2005-06): Team finished the season 7-3...earned First-Team All-Foothill Conference honors and Second-Team Junior College Grid-Wire All-America honors.
WSU: JUNIOR (2006-07): Enrolled at WSU in January, 2007, and will participate in spring drills...will have three years to finish his two years of competition.
,b>PERSONAL: Vaughn Timilai Lesuma...born January 18, 1985 in Fiji...parents Meli and Irene of four children: sisters Jannifer and Alayna, and brother Reed...represented Fiji in men's basketball for under 21 and men's division at national tournaments...member of Oceania basketball team at Youth Olympics in Australia, 2000...served two-year church mission in Anaheim, Calif. (2002-04)...plans to major in social science with an emphasis in communication.

AYERS, STEVEN OL 6-4/275 FR Bellingham, Wash. (Sehome High '07)
: Earned three varsity letters in football and wrestling...earned four varsity letters in track and field. SOPHOMORE (2004-05): Finish track and field season, with a third place finish in state for the shot put and a fourth place finish in discuss. JUNIOR (2005-06): Honorable mention for the Northwest League as an offensive and defensive captain...finished third at the state tournament in wrestling...third in the shot put and discuss. ,b>SENIOR (2006-07): Northwest League's First Team offensive and defensive lineman...All-State offensive lineman...Seattle Times All-State selection...voted most inspirational and awarded lineman of the year by his team.
PERSONAL: Steven John Ayers...born November 2, 1988...parents Bruce and Carol Daniel (32), sisters Tara (26) and Emily (14)...completed Eagle Scout and is the student leader for Sehome Young Life...3.55 prep GPA...plans to pursue a degree in communications.

BLACKLEDGE, DANIEL WR 6-1/175 FR Colorado Springs, Colo. (Palmer High '07)
: Earned three varsity letters in football under head coach Rod Baker...earned four varsity letters in track and three varsity letters in basketball. FRESHMAN (2003-04): All-Area honorable mention in track and field. SOPHOMORE (2004-05): Qualified for state in track and field in the long jump and placed fourth, fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 110m high hurdles...all-state honorable mention in basketball...first team all-city, first team all-league and All-State honorable mention in football. JUNIOR (2005-06): First team all-league and all-area in football...All-State honorable mention. SENIOR (2006-07): Selected as first team all-area, all-league, academic all-state, All-State and All-Colorado.
PERSONAL: Daniel Aaron Blackledge...born December 16, 1988...mother Cynthia of four brothers...enjoys dancing and hanging out with friends...3.75 GPA...participated in the wind ensemble in high school and was a member of the link program...plans to pursue a degree in international business.

: Coached by Jerry Drones in football...earned three varsity letters in football and one in track. SOPHOMORE (2004-05): Named to all-league honorable mention defense. : Earned three letters in football under coach Jim Bonds and was captain his senior season. FRESHMAN (2003-04): Helped led team to 10-0 with 10 starts at offensive tackle. SOPHOMORE (2004-05): Garnered First-Team All-Mission League...selected First-Team All-Area by the Glendale News Press, Foothill Leader and Pasadena Star News.
