California's Dominik Meichtry Named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA's Dominik Meichtry has been named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month for January, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Meichtry, from Rorschacherberg, Switzerland, picked up his fifth title in the 500 free as he beat USC's Larsen Jensen by 4.13 seconds with a winning time of 4:19.47 at the Dallas Morning News Invitational.

The junior, who claimed his first victory in the 500 free against Cal State Bakersfield after being clocked at 4:32.43, continued his winning streak at the Arizona State dual where he won the 500 free with a time of 4:26.34. In addition to his success in the 500 last month, Meichtry also won four 200 free events against Arizona, Arizona State, USC, and at the Husky Dual.

This is the first monthly honor for Meichtry and California's second Swimmer of the Month honor all-time.
