California's Emily Silver Named Pac-10 Women's Swimmer of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA swimmer Emily Silver has been named Pac-10 Women's Swimmer of the Month for January, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Silver, a junior from Bainbridge Island, Wash., led the Golden Bears to wins in dual meets against Pac-10 foes Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA and USC. The 2006 All-American won nine individual events, including four victories in the 50-yard freestyle, in NCAA B qualifying times.

In addition to her individual titles, Silver was also a part of four winning relay teams that clocked NCAA B cuts during the month of January. Out of the 16 events in which Silver competed, she finished first in all but three where she garnered second in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly.

This is the first monthly honor for Silver and California's fourth Swimmer of the Month all-time.
