Barnes Wins 800m to Lead Bruin Men at Tyson Invite in Arkansas

Laef Barnes won the college section of the 800m on Saturday to lead the No. 24 Bruin men at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, AR. The sophomore clocked 1:53.50 to win his heat and the race.
Also having a strong day on Saturday were vaulter Mike Landers and jumper Michael Johnson. Landers finished third in the champioship section of the pole vault with a mark of 17-4.50, just 1/2 inch shy of his indoor lifetime-best, 17-5. Johnson finished ninth in the championship section of the triple jump, leaping 51-0.25. Although the mark was an NCAA provisional qualifier, he has a better mark of 51-3.75 this season.
Freshman Scott Crawford ran a season-best 1:54.90 to finish ninth in the college section of the 800m. Fellow freshman Darius Reed, running in a consolation section of the 60m hurdles, finished fourth overall in a new lifetime-best time of 8.00.
The Bruins will head to Flagstaff, AR and the Northern Arizona Elite Invitational as they continue the indoor track and field season.
