Bears Lose Close Match To Texas

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 25 California men's tennis team came up short against No. 19 Texas, Saturday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Longhorns beat the Golden Bears, 4-3. Cal dropped to 3-3 on the season.
The Bears won three singles matches after losing the doubles point. Junior Pierre Mouillon knocked off Miguel Reyes Varela in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Senior Tyler Browne and sophomore Eoin Heavey both rebounded after losing the first set and won their matches. Browne beat Milan Mihailovic, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Heavey defeated Luis Diaz Barriga, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
'We had some good shots, I thought we played well,' head coach Peter Wright said. 'It was a close match. It wasn't decided until the third set of the last match. We got some good performances from Pierre, Tyler and Eoin.'
Although Texas took the doubles point, Cal did get one win in doubles. Browne and senior John Pettit beat Varela and Barriga, 8-5.
The Bears get back on the courts tomorrow when they square off against No. 29 Tulsa at 1 p.m. CT.
