SEATTLE - Daniel Chu equaled the record for most career doubles wins in Husky history as the No. 17 UW men's tennis team defeated Texas Tech to win the Great Northwest Shootout. The Huskies (6-1) won 4-1 over No. 56 Texas Tech (4-2) in the final match of the three-day tournament.

The No. 35 ranked doubles team of Patrik Fischer and Michael Ricks won the No. 2 doubles match to give the Huskies the early edge before Chu and teammate Derek Drabble clinched the doubles point for the Huskies by winning the No. 3 match 8-6. Slovic and Andy Kuharszky were trailing 8-7 in the No. 1 doubles match when it was halted.

Chu now has 72 doubles wins in his career, equaling Eric Drew and Slovic for No. 1 all-time. Chu was 3-0 for the weekend, while Slovic was 0-1 with two 'DNFs' during the weekend.

The Huskies added to their 1-0 lead with quick straight-set victories by Drabble in the No. 4 singles and Fischer in the No. 6 singles match.

Texas Tech drew closer when Michael Breler won in the No. 5 singles match over David Chu, but Washington was leading in two of the remaining three matches left on the court.

Kuharszky quelled any hope of a comeback from the Red Raiders by winning four-straight games over No. 92-ranked Sinisa Markovic after trailing 5-3 in the second set. Kuharszky ended up winning 6-4, 7-5.

'I'm thrilled that all three matches were very close and we came out on top,' said Husky Head Coach Matt Anger. 'I can't say I expected it, but I thought we would be in all our matches. We were very fortunate.'

The Huskies won the Great Northwest Shootout, which is held every other year, for the fourth-consecutive time. This year's field featured players from 21 different countries.

The Huskies return to action next Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center against the Portland Pilots.
