Cal in 13th After 1st Round of Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - The California women's golf team is in 13th place with a score of 318 Monday after the opening round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Pepperdine leads the 15-team tournament at 297, and Florida is in second place at 299. Arizona State and Texas A&M are tied for third at 300, and Arizona rounds out the top five at 301. Ohio State, the tournament host, is in 12th at 316.
Sophomore Allison Goodman led Cal in the first round of the spring season with a three-over 74 to tie for 10th. Goodman was at one-under through the first 16 holes before posting a triple bogey and bogey on holes No. 8 and 9, respectively. She began the day with birdies on holes 10 and 16 to sit at two-under with bogey-free golf through eight holes.
Freshman Roseanne Niven is tied for 40th at 79 after her first round in an Cal uniform. Sophomore Shannon Yocum is tied for 49th at 80, and freshman Sofia Janer is tied for 71st with an 85 in her opening round for the Bears.
Cal begins the second round at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the 10th hole.
