Feb. 13, 2007
The No. 12 UCLA men's track and field team will compete this Saturday in Flagstaff, AZ at the Northern Arizona Elite meet. The Bruins, who moved up from 24th to 12th in the latest Trackwire rankings, will use the meet as a final push to qualify athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships, as well as improve upon athletes' performances that have already qualified for nationals.
This weekend, all event groups will be represented aside from the distance runners, who will sit this weekend out do to the altitude difference.
So far this season, the Bruins qualified six athletes to the national meet - Kevin Craddock, 60m hurdles (7.73); Mike Landers, pole vault (17-5); David Murphy, pole vault (17-0.75); Michael Johnson, triple jump (51-3.75); Dominique Easterling, triple jump (50-8.75); and John Caulfield, shot put (61-4.25).
Craddock is the highest ranked Bruin in the NCAA as he currently holds the No. 4 60m hurdles time in the country, 7.73. Last weekend, he won the hurdles event at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas, breaking former Bruin Greg Foster's 1979 school record in the process.
Several of these athletes are on the cusp of making nationals, and improving on their marks will solidify a spot for themselves at the national meet held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, AR.
