No. 23 Pepperdine Beats USC, 8-3, In Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. - Mark Tracy went 2-for-5 with three RBI while Danny Worth went 3-for-4 with two RBI Tuesday as the No. 23 Pepperdine Waves defeated the USC Trojans, 8-3, in nonconference action at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Waves used a 16-hit attack to defeat the Trojans.

Pepperdine (5-2) scored three times in the third and fifth innings after USC (5-4) held a 2-1 lead in the third. Adam Olbrychowski (1-0) earned the win by allowing only one run on three hits in four innings of relief. Jordan Durrance and Daniel Farris threw a combined 2 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Nick Buss went 2-for-4 for the Trojans, hitting a solo home run to left in the third.

USC starter Tommy Milone took the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Freshman Hector Rabago made his collegiate debut at third base for the Trojans and later pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth.

The Waves took the lead for good in the third with Adrian Ortiz leading off with an infield single. Worth walked and Chase d'Arnaud followed with an RBI double down the left field line, plating Ortiz. Tracy then hit a two-run single to left for the 4-2 advantage.

The Trojans play San Diego State this weekend with Friday's game at Dedeaux Field, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games will be played at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego with a 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. start, respectively.
