Women's Tennis Opens Pac-10 Play With a 7-0 Shut-Out Over Washington

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 24 ASU Women's Tennis team got back on track Friday afternoon as they opened Pac-10 play in Tempe with a 7-0 sweep of the Washington Huskies at ASU's WhitemanTennisCenter. ASU are now 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in Pac-10 play. The Huskies fall to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.


ASU came out strong in doubles, jumping out immediately to grab two wins with Rebecca Rankin and Nadia Abdala shutting out Allison Rainey and Lauren Summers 8-0, with eighth-ranked duo of Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke coming in with an 8-3 win over Washington's Joyce Ardies and Victoria Brymer to seal the point.


In singles the Devils were unstoppable, going 6-0 and winning each point in straight sets over the Huskies. Laila Abdala led the way with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over UW's Lauren Summers, with senior Sabrina Capannolo following closely behind with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tara Simpson.


Nadia Abdala, Roxanne Clarke, Kady Pooler and Rebecca Rankin all follow with wins in the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots to wrap the match in flawless fashion.


The Sun Devils return to action tomorrow as they take on the No. 56 Washington State Cougars in Tempe. The match is set to kick-off at noon at ASU's WhitemanTennisCenter.
