No. 2 Softball Adds Two Wins Over Iowa and Idaho State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 2 Sun Devil Softball team grabbed two more wins Saturday night during day two of the Littlewood Classic as they topped Iowa 4-3 and Idaho State 15-4 in five innings, with Kaitlin Cochran hitting a double, triple and home run and Kristen Miller going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. The Sun Devils are now 12-0 on the season as they head into the final day of the Littlewood Classic where ASU will face off with the UC Riverside Highlanders 1:00 p.m. at Farrington Stadium.


Against the Hawkeyes, the Sun Devils were able to tack one on in the first as a lead-off walk to Jessica Mapes was brought home with an RBI single through the left side sparking them to a 1-0 lead. ASU added two more in the third while Katie Burkhart manned the mound striking out 10. The Hawkeyes fought back in the seventh, scoring three, but ASU closed out the game in the bottom of the inning after a lead-off single to Michelle Smith was brought home by an RBI single from Kaitlin Cochran.


Mindy Cowles took the mound for the Sun Devils in the second game, allowing only three hits as the ASU offense caught on fire rattling off 15 hits for 15 runs with seven doubles, a triple and two home runs. The Sun Devils tacked five on in the first inning with a RBI double from Kaitlin Cochran and a home run to right field from Kristen Miller. Cochran added three more runs in the second with a shot to left with two on to push it to 8-0. The Sun Devils added on 11 more in the next three innings to round it out at 15.


ASU will wrap up the 2007 Littlewood Classic tomorrow with games starting at 9 a.m. The Sun Devils will take the field against the UC Riverside Highlanders in the last game of the tournament at 1 p.m.
