No. 15 UCLA Baseball Drops Exhibition to St. Paul's, 10-7

Los Angeles - Sophomore Blair Dunlap led the Bruins, hitting 3-for-4, as No. 15 UCLA lost to St. Paul's University (Japan), 10-7, in an exhibition game at Jackie Robinson Stadium Wednesday evening.

The Bruins added three runs in the bottom of the first on a bases-clearing double by redshirt freshman Corey Ashner. St. Paul's cut UCLA's lead to 3-1 in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, shortstop Yukuta Suzuki reached on a fielder's choice, allowing center fielder Takahisa Miyoshi to score. UCLA extended its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the second. Redshirt senior Nolan Rouse doubled to left field and scored on a base-hit by sophomore Blair Dunlap.

St. Paul's took a 5-4 lead in the third inning with four runs off one hit and five walks. The visitors added three more runs in the top of the fifth and added one run in the seventh inning on a base-hit by third baseman Daiki Hayase, bringing home Tajima from third base to make the score 9-4.

The Bruins cut St. Paul's lead to 9-7 on five hits and a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth. Dunlap registered his third hit of the evening, a base hit up the middle. He advanced to third on a double by redshirt senior Will Penniall and scored on a wild pitch. Freshman Casey Haerther plated Penniall from third with a groundout to shortstop. UCLA's inning continued with a single by junior Mickey Weisser and a double by redshirt freshman Dustin Quist. With two outs, sophomore Eddie Murray singled to left field, allowing Weisser to score before Murray was tagged out in a rundown.

St. Paul's added one run in the ninth inning to lead 10-7. The visitors led off the inning with two singles, and Tajima scored from third base on a bloop single by Fumiya Sakai.
