STANFORD, Calif.- After an impressive homestand sweep of USC and UCLA last weekend, No. 1 Stanford plays its first road dual match of the year on Friday afternoon in the desert.
Half of Stanford's six matches have taken place on its home court, the other three in Madison, Wis., at the National Team Indoor Championships.
Now the Cardinal (5-1) hits the road for the first time in Pac-10 play. The week begins at No. 22 Arizona State (6-1). All six of the Sun Devils' victories have come at home, with the only loss coming in the form of a 4-3 defeat at Texas.
On Saturday, Stanford closes out the trip against No. 46 Arizona (5-3). After a three-game losing streak, the Wildcats have stormed back to win four in a row. Arizona hosts California on Friday afternoon before welcoming Stanford to town.
Leading the way for the Cardinal in singles is sophomore Jessica Nguyen, who sports a team-best 15-4 record and remains perfect in dual match play at 5-0. Three doubles teams own a 5-2 record, led by the No. 1 squad of junior Celia Durkin and senior Anne Yelsey.
Also, the latest ITA rankings show five Cardinal players with a national ranking. Nguyen moves up to No. 5, Durkin is now at No. 8, senior Theresa Logar jumps up to No. 15, Lindsay Burdette checks in at No. 29 and Yelsey returns at No. 67.
Two doubles squads are ranked: Durkin and Nguyen are No. 21 and Burdette and Nguyen are No. 29.
