WSU Takes on No. 41 Oregon for Nonconference Match

This Week - The Washington State women's tennis team (0-2 Pac-10, 8-3 overall), ranked 55th nationally travels to Eugene, Ore., to take on the No. 41 Oregon Ducks (0-0 Pac-10, 6-2 overall), Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Student Tennis Center for a nonconference match at noon.

Quack Attack - Oregon and its top player, Dominika Dieskova, are fresh off a major wins against the Colorado Buffaloes (5-2) and the Denver Pioneers (4-3)...Dieskova defeated the Buffaloes' Monika Milewski and improved her season record to 8-6...other notable Ducks are Cermen Seremeta, who has a record of 17-3 playing most of her matches in the No. 3 slot, and Monica Hoz de Vila, who has a record of 13-7, in the No. 5 slot.

All-Time Series with Oregon - The Oregon Ducks leads the all-time series against the Cougars, 31-16...WSU and the Ducks have squared off 47 times, which is the most played opponent in Cougar tennis history...last year Oregon defeated WSU twice, 5-2 in its first meeting and 4-3 in the Cougars final match of the season...Oregon is currently riding a four-match win streak against the Cougars...WSU last beat the Ducks, 4-3, March 13, 2004, when Oregon was ranked 23rd.

Last Week - WSU dropped both matches last week to two top 50 opponents...WSU fell to No. 48 Arizona, 6-1, in a match much closer than the score represented...WSU was a doubles match away from capturing the doubles point and lost two single matches that went to three-sets...No. 24 Arizona State defeated WSU, 7-0, after securing the doubles point and swept the Cougars in singles play.

Cougar Gold - Senior Marjolein van de Ven split matches against the Arizona schools and was the lone Cougar to capture a victory against Arizona...van de Ven leads the team with a 17-5 record and is 10-1 in dual match play...junior Ekaterina Burduli follows with 15 wins and senior Amy Toth is third on the team with 12 wins...Toth currently has 70 career wins, which places her one win shy of Sheryl Traum for eighth place on WSU's all-time wins list.

Match Changes - The match scheduled against Montana State, Sunday March 4 at 3 p.m., has been cancelled...match against USC, Friday, March 2, has been changed from 1:30 p.m. to noon.

Naming of the Fieldhouse - WSU is proud to name the tennis courts inside the Hollingbery Fieldhouse, the Simmelink Tennis Courts...courts were named after Cougar supporter Audrey Simmelink for her generosity for not only Cougar tennis, but for all Cougar official naming ceremony will take place later this spring.

Battle of the Ranks - Oregon will be the fifth ranked team WSU will have played this season...WSU is 1-3 against ranked opponents thus far...head coach Lisa Hart has claimed victories over 10 ranked opponents during her four years at WSU.
