No. 7 Cal Stays Hot In the Desert with a Win over Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Riding its momentum from last weekend's two big wins, the seventh-ranked California women's tennis team defeated Arizona, Friday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz., by the score of 6-1. The Golden Bears improved to 7-2 on the season.

Third-ranked Susie Babos, this week's Pac-10 Player of the Week, dominated in her singles match against Juliette Mavroleon, defeating the Wildcat, 6-1, 6-3. Babos also won in doubles. The fourth-ranked doubles tandem of Babos and senior Zsuzsanna Fodor beat Mavroleon and Danielle Steinberg, 8-2, to clinch the doubles point for Cal.

Freshman Nina Henkel was the first Cal player to get in the win column. She beat Kasia Jakowlew, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Henkel and sophomore Daron Moore shut out Natalia Toprowska and Jakowlew, 8-0.

Juniors Stephanie Kusano and Cristina Visico also won in straight sets in singles. Kusano's victory clinched the match for the Bears, as she knocked off Toprowska, 6-3, 6-3. Visico defeated Katie Orletsky, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Marion Ravelojaona was in a battle in the first set of her match against Tina Razloznik, but hung on to win the set and the match, 7-6, 6-3.

The Bears square off against No. 22 Arizona State tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. in Tempe, Ariz.
