No. 7 Cal Wins A Close One Over No. 22 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The California women's tennis team earned another victory over a top-25 team on Saturday, as it beat No. 22 Arizona State at the Whiteman Tennis Center, 4-3. The Golden Bears improved to 8-2 on the season, as they get set to return to Northern California for a showdown against top-ranked Stanford next week.
Cal got the day off on the right foot, as it took the doubles point. The fourth-ranked doubles team of junior Susie Babos and senior Zsuzsanna Fodor beat Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke, 8-4. Junior Stephanie Kusano and freshman Nina Henkel got the other win, as they beat Sabrina Capannolo and Jessica Leitch, 8-4. It proved to be a huge point for Cal, as it split the singles matches with the Sun Devils.
After a tough loss yesterday, Fodor came back strong with a singles win on Saturday, as she beat Nadia Abdala, 6-2, 7-5.
Henkel and Kusano notched the other singles wins for the Bears. Henkel defeated Clarke, 7-5, 6-4. Kusano beat Rebecca Rankin, 6-3, 6-1.
The Bears will have to be at their best in their next match when they travel to Stanford and square off against the top-ranked Cardinal next Saturday.
