Leading Off:

After a weekend sweep of the UAB Blazers, ArizonaState heads to Tucson for a non-conference match-up with in-state rival Arizona. The Wildcats took two of three from UNLV last weekend in Las Vegas and are ranked 17th by Collegiate Baseball.

The Sun Devils vs. The Wildcats:

Arizona State holds a 168-110 edge over Arizona since ASU began varsity baseball in 1959. The Wildcats won three of the five meetings between the two last season, including two of three in Tucson.

ASU/UAB Wrap Up:

The ArizonaState bats awoke over the weekend, as ASU outscored UAB 36-10 in the three games. Petey Paramore went 6-10 over the weekend, scoring seven runs and drawing four walks. He also played third base for two innings on Sunday, the fi rst time he has played a defensive position other than catcher in his ASU career. Pitching was a key to the series, as the ASU bullpen was solid for much of the weekend. Mike Leake continued his success, and Dustin Brader was able to turn in a solid performance on Sunday to pick up a win. The bullpen totaled 14 innings of work, allowing only ten hits and striking out 13 batters.

For Starters:

ASU got some solid starting pitching from Josh Satow and Brian Flores in the series against the Blazers. Satow went 5.1 innings, striking out six and allowing only one earned run on two hits to pick up the win on Friday night. Flores went six innings on Saturday, striking out five and allowing only two hits while not allowing a run to up his record to 2-0 on the year.

Hey Joe:

Freshman lefty Joe Hatasaki made his collegiate debut on Sunday, getting the start in the series finale against UAB. Hatasaki lasted 2.2 innings, allowing only one run on two hits in the Devils 12-5 win.

Get Some Work:

Of the 29 players available to play over the weekend, only Joey Parigi did not see action, and he could potentially start against the Wildcats.

Up Next:

The Sun Devils head to Auburn, Alabama for a three-game set with the Auburn Tigers this weekend. The Tigers are ranked #24 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll.
